SpecTips: A Permanent Hazard Warning for Your Roof
Any time someone steps onto a roof, there is risk involved. With the maintenance needed for rooftop mechanical units, building components, and routine jobs such as cleaning drains and gutters, the people completing the tasks are always at risk. Whether the work is performed by in-house personnel or a service contractor, building owners must consider these dangers and the impact they can have on insurance costs and the liability that goes with building ownership or management. With these risks and liability in mind, building owners and their representatives, including architects and specifiers, must take proper steps to ensure safety for everyone who steps foot on the roof. This can be accomplished by specifying hazard warnings for the roof walkways and perimeters using permanent warning strips.
Carlisle’s Yellow Pressure-Sensitive (PS) Warning Strip is the permanent solution for marking and mitigating rooftop risks such as roof perimeters and edges, tripping hazards such as deep drain sumps, skylights, as well as hot and/or dangerous equipment. Yellow PS Warning Strip comes in 6”-wide by 100’-long rolls and creates a permanent yellow line that provides a visual warning of an impending hazard. Ideal for roofs requiring frequent maintenance, Yellow PS Warning Strip is available for TPO, PVC, and EPDM membranes and can easily be installed without specialized welding equipment or electricity. Unlike paint products, Yellow PS Warning Strip will not need to be reapplied every few years.
SPECTIP
To specify Yellow Pressure-Sensitive Warning Strip, include it as an Accessory Roofing Material for your single-ply roof assembly in Part II (Products) of the appropriate single-ply roof section of your project specification.
Division 7 – Thermal and Moisture Protection
075323 – Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) Roofing
075419 – Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Roofing
075423 – Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) Roofing
“Yellow Pressure-Sensitive (PS) Warning Strip: a nominal 30-mil-thick non-reinforced TPO flashing laminated to a nominal 30-mil-thick, fully cured synthetic rubber Pressure-Sensitive adhesive and is available in 6"-wide by 100'-long rolls.”
