SpecTips: New Gray EPDM PS Elastoform Flashing Option for Gray TPO Installations
Flashing penetrations on gray TPO just got easier!
With the growing use of gray TPO, contractors have been looking for easier ways to flash pipes, scuppers, and unusually shaped roof penetrations. White EPDM Pressure-Sensitive Elastoform Flashing has grown very popular for wrapping pipe stands or flashing scupper details on TPO roofs – but up until now, there wasn’t a solution for gray TPO systems.
Carlisle recently introduced 12” x 50’ Gray Pressure-Sensitive (PS) Elastoform Flashing and Gray Universal Single-Ply Sealant to address this need in the marketplace.
Contractors will appreciate the flexibility of utilizing Gray EPDM PS Elastoform Flashing for details like field-fabricated pipe wraps, inside corners, outside corners, and scuppers, while architects will appreciate the aesthetics that the matching gray color provides. Gray Universal Single-Ply Sealant is used to seal the outer flashing edge after priming the surface to complete the detail.
Corresponding detail numbers for using PS Elastoform on TPO are provided below :
- MF-8BT Field-Fabricated Pipe Seal
- U-8DT Hot Stack
- U-15CT Inside Corner
- U-15GT Outside Corner
- U-18BT Scupper
SPECTIP
- EPDM Flashing should be called out in Specification Section 075423, “TPO Roofing” as roof membrane flashing under Part II, “Products”.
- When specifying colors, make sure the project spec calls out the colors of flashing, coated metal, and any other accessories that need to match the membrane.
- You may also want to modify the TPO section to include EPDM product standards in the Quality Assurance portions of the specification; language for those standards exist in the Specification Section 075323, “EPDM Roofing”.

SpecTips: Benefits of a Hybrid Insulation System
To help jobs stay on schedule and avoid project delays due to polyiso lead times, consider combining expanded polystyrene (EPS) and polyiso to create a hybrid insulation system for your project.
SpecTopics: TPO Impact Resistance Tests
Impact resistance requirements in Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) roofing specifications generally mention that the membrane needs to resist impact damage when tested according to ASTM D3746, ASTM D4272, or the "Resistance to Foot Traffic Test" in FM Approval 4470. However, two out of the three referenced standards are not applicable to TPO roofing membrane.
